CRYSTAL BETH REHEARSAL_RALLY

A NEW ERA

Spearheaded by Stevie P - that oh so cuddly yet dangerously scratchy spitfire guitarist that has graced various projects in my life for the last 11+ years - a group of my peoples pooled together to buy a barrel mic for my Bb clarinet.

without a doubt, one of THE most touching experiences of my life.

...you will be hearing a lot more on this subject in the months to come...

but first, the surgery:

a HUGE THANK YOU to:

Stephen Parris
Mike Owcharuk
Mark Ostrowski

Brian Baillie

SKETCH_KUTSUNIDO/SANCTITY DEFILED

This was in a dream...there are other parts...I can feel them, I can still see them, but I can't hear them clearly yet.

it was so very intense and loud in the dream - painfully so. and there were these big chaotic sections where it was impossible to make out any individual sound, it was a wash, and I was forced to receive it with all of its complexity and distortion all at once. Everyone else was wearing earplugs - and the sound came from a source that couldn't be fully seen. I remember trying to stretch the oppressiveness of the sound out over my entire body - trying to lessen the painful impact it was having by stretching it thin, not allowing it to concentrate in any one part of my body. I knew to allow it to do so would be poisonous.

when I woke up I grabbed my phone and recorded the part that I had just heard.

PRESS IN THE NEW YEAR

Around the new year there were two press nods I wanted to archive here:

Owcharuk 5 on the Top 10 Seattle Jazz CDs list by Jason Parker:

http://www.thesunbreak.com/2011/01/06/top-10-seattle-jazz-cds-of-2010

and a very surprising listing as one of Amy's 11 Performance Artists to Watch in 2011 on the Seattlest:

http://seattlest.com/2010/12/19/countdown_to_2011_amys_11_performan.php

In both instances I am quite honored to be recognized alongside such incredible company. Seattle has such a dynamic art scene. LOVE THIS PLACE!

WORD FROM THE WISE

"Look at me - look at me!
PLEASE do NOT waste this.
I want to see rubies in your crown.

Pull it in through your core, and out through your throat.
You can let all of that go now.

I want to see rubies in your crown."

(Margareta Waterman FTW!)

PARDON

"please excuse my gaping chest wound - I'll try not to bleed on your nice sofa"

OWCHARUK MEDITATION

This is a solo clarinet piece titled Meditation I by Michael Owcharuk. When written out, the piece has no time signature and no bar lines - it is up to the performer to interpret the tempo of the phrases and the relative rhythms.

I chose to record the first reading of the piece as an exercise for myself (instead of running through it once and then recording) - so this is a completely fresh reading of the Meditation.

Michael is writing a composition everyday for the year.

HAPPY NEW YEAR

METAL RABBIT ROAR!!!

PAST PROJECTS

I came across these videos thanks to google alerts. This was a project by the so very awesome Timothy Young and Paul Moore back in 2003.

I got to do this gig because I was still in school and they called the college looking for a bass clarinetist. I rented a bass clarinet to be able to do it......a horn I eventually bought over the course of the four years following, and still play on today. Thus, this gig was the birth of Beatrice - BCOD, and the beginning of introducing the bass clarinet as a consistent part of my performance work.

This project was also one of the first public shows I did upon returning to Seattle after a 2 year hiatus to rehabilitate an injury to my mouth that caused nerve damage. So at the same time, it was kind of like my birth back in to the Seattle music scene at the beginning of a re-commitment I made to my work as an artist.

Thanks Tim and Paul - I love your music!
